So If you don't know, Fallout New Vegas is the 6th Fallout game and the second fallout game to be first-person shooter based. I've invested at least 50 legitimate hours into this masterpiece and it is one of my favorite games on steam. I've considered buying the collectors edition for ps3 because i like it so much. I've beaten the game, but every day I keep going back for more. That's something not a lot of games have, replay value after the main story.
So the story, some background is that you are in the apocalypse and trying to survive. You start off in a quiet, friendly little town called goodsprings, with friendly people, but a rising gang on the edge of the border. The game has many moral choices, as
in this example you have a choice to join the gang and kill the members of the town, which will get you respect with the gang and allies of the gang, or you can join goodsprings in a militia to fight the gang. The game also lets you kill whoever you want, but that will penalize you as killing certain people will make their faction hate you. Like if I kill an NCR member, the NCR won't like me and will attempt to attack me at times. [/SPOLIER] It has a LARGE fully-explorable wasteland with factions, cities, quiet towns, animals and enemies. Characters are well detailed, and the majority of them have full dialogue where you can have a conversation with them, and as you choose what to say, depending on WHAT you say will result in different events to happen. I have beaten the entire game as I said before, but I'm not going to spoil anything about that as a game this good shouldn't be revealed.
Gameplay wise? There are many types of weapons available, as well as clothes which your character can find and wear. After you kill someone, you can take THEIR clothes and items as well. Fallout is the only game I've ever played where the reason to kill someone is for their clothes. Like several other games fast travel is an option. While the game is structured as a third or first person shooter, Fallout new vegas has done an outstanding job going back to its roots by incorporating RPG like gameplay. After you earn a certain amount of XP, you level up, where you can increase skills such as medicine, guns, speech, energy weapons, barter, and more. These also allow you to do things later in the game, as a high speech skill can get you lots of oppourtunities. You can get XP by killing animals and people, using your speech skill in certain conversations, doing quests and more.
soundtrack-wise in my opinion the music of new vegas is outstanding. You can select multiple radio stations to listen to (Radio New Vegas #allday) each with different music. All of the music comes from I'd say the 30's to 50's, which sounds odd but its incorporated SO WELL into the game it makes it better. For the instrumentals themselves if you choose to go without radio plus menu music and so on is amazing as well. All very good.
I'm going to go ahead and give this game a 10/10. You can complete the story and go back and do it again, this time making different choices, leveling up different skills. I haven't even started on all the different DLC's that you can get, during the steam christmas sale I got the game with ALL DLC for $6, which has all been worth it. The DLC adds hours and hours of gameplay to everything. There is so much more I've left out of here, from features to different creatures to companions that help you, to a hardcore mode made for people who want maximum difficulty. Hardcore requires you to sleep, eat, and drink as well as stay healthy and get enough rest.
Incredible game. Everyone should put at least 10 hours into it before making a final decision.
